DIY: gathered skirt (intermediate-difficult sewing)

This DIY is perfect for the summer! It's a little bit more difficult but manageable! I used a little under 2 yards of fabric that I got from a friend. The fabric I'm using is called "lavalava" which is traditional Samoan cloth. It's a cotton material that has a little bit more structure to it.



Materials

• 2 yards of fabric 
• sewing machine 
• pins
• zipper (mine was 6 inches) 
• matching thread 
• measuring tape 
• rotary cutter or scissors

Thrifted Transformations: overalls to an overall dress

Ever have a piece of clothing that doesn't fit you quite right? Or find something at the thrift store that needs to be revamped? I found an awesome pair of overalls at my local thrift store for just $4 but sadly my thighs didn't quite fit :( Since the top fit me quite well though, I decided to turn it into a dress! The original tutorial is by a YouTuber named coolirpa (link at the bottom). I bought the skirt I used at Forever 21 but you can definitely make one yourself! A simple and quick tutorial (the best in my opinion!)

The breakdown

1.  Cut off the shorts of the overalls 
2. Topstitch your skirt onto the overalls

yarn galore!

Materials 

- Yarn 

- Size U.S. 10½ (6.5 mm) knitting needles 

- Cable needle (optional. I usually just have a back up needle) 

Abbreviations:

Beg = Beginning

C18F = Slip next 9 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work. (K1. P1) 4 times. K1. [(P1. K1) 4 times. P1] from cable needle.

K = Knit

P = Purl

Pat = Pattern

Rep = Repeat(ing)

RS = Right side

St(s) = Stitch(es)

Tog = Together

WS = Wrong side

Instructions:

Cast on 18 sts.

1st row (RS): *K1. P1. Rep from * to end of row.

Rep last row until work from beg measures 11" [28 cm], ending on a WS row.

Next row: C18F.

Next row: *K1. P1. Rep from * to end of row.

Rep last row until work from beg measures 22" [56 cm], ending on a WS row. Cast off in pat.

Sew ends tog.

These headbands are very easy to make I noticed that when I followed this pattern that it always tends to be on the bigger size so when you get to the part where they ask you to knit to 11", substitute that to 10" instead, its has a nicer fit than the given instructions. 

The decal can be added according to whatever you wish. You can sew on fake pearls/beads in my case I love needle felting so I needle felt this stuff.

Slouchy sweater

Do I look like I work out? ;)

Materials

• 2 meters (≈ 2.2 yards) of knit fabric (for the body of the sweater) 
• 1/2 a yard of a stretchy knit fabric of the same color (for the cuffs, collar and waistband)

Sunday School: Mustard Seed craft

So for my Sunday school lesson on the "Mustard Seed" I thought it would be fun for the kids to take home a reminder of the story hence little key chains/necklace.

Materials: 

- miniature bottles (Dollerama)

- mini screw eye (Home Depot)

- Mustard Seeds (Bulk Barn)

- Key Chain hooks (Micheals)

- "Faith" charm (Micheals)

- Bristol board 

You can write on cut out pieces. Mathew 13:31-32 and on the other side a little reminder:

"Sometimes all you need is faith as BIG as a mustard seed and God will do the rest"  

Mother's Day - afternoon tea & dinner

So Happy Mother's day to all the special women in your lives. This is how we celebrated those close to our hearts. We had decorations, afternoon tea with some cookies/ biscuits whichever suits your fancy, and a lovely dinner to follow. I managed to create some felted pins for each mother as a little token of thanks.
