I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for ICE CREAM!!!!!

Summer is my least favourite season. But ice cream is yummy so I'll talk about ice cream. There are a lot of specialized ice cream downtown. Like this churro coned cheese cake ice cream perfect of those who have an intense sweet tooth. Not so much for those who are sweating buckets the warm fresh churro isn't soothing for a heat wave.

Found a really nice little mexican Popsicle store. Hibiscus  and Chmoy flavoured popsicles. This is appropriate for a heat wave. My parents got Mango and Chmoy and Pineapple and Chmoy. YUM!

DIY: gathered skirt (intermediate-difficult sewing)

This DIY is perfect for the summer! It's a little bit more difficult but manageable! I used a little under 2 yards of fabric that I got from a friend. The fabric I'm using is called "lavalava" which is traditional Samoan cloth. It's a cotton material that has a little bit more structure to it.

Materials

  • 2 yards of fabric
  • sewing machine
  • pins
  • zipper (mine was 6 inches)
  • matching thread
  • measuring tape
  • rotary cutter or scissors
The tutorial I followed was by CheapbutChic1 on YouTube. Here's the link!

Thrifted Transformations: overalls to an overall dress

Ever have a piece of clothing that doesn't fit you quite right? Or find something at the thrift store that needs to be revamped? I found an awesome pair of overalls at my local thrift store for just $4 but sadly my thighs didn't quite fit :( Since the top fit me quite well though, I decided to turn it into a dress! The original tutorial is by a YouTuber named coolirpa (link at the bottom). I bought the skirt I used at Forever 21 but you can definitely make one yourself! A simple and quick tutorial (the best in my opinion!)

The breakdown
  1.  Cut off the shorts of the overalls
  2. Topstitch your skirt onto the overalls

In depth tutorial and steps by coolirpa!

Canada Dry

Hmmmmm.... I don't wear make-up all that often. Mostly lipstick or lotion so I'll just post this. Canada is very dry so I like this brand from Aveeno. Its none scented and keeps my skin hydrated. Its needed when you live in a country like Canada :)

Hooray for more styles!

Cara

When picking an outfit Cara's main go to is comfort. Something with a neat print, loose fit and on trend. Her choice of clothing is usually based on instinct, and mostly comfort. She's pretty funny the first thing she tells me is that her go to is "$10 and under! That's what I look for. :D" My response "...that's helpful..." Cara is my thrift store buddy that along with Carissa! Since its winter sweaters are the most exciting to hunt for. But there are some exceptions that catch our attention like this top for Cara. (This top is not thrifted. Its actually bought)

Victoria

I usually gravitate to clothing that have bright colours but not all the time lately its been colours like mustard yellow, or give off a warm effect. But this orange scarf is a fun pop of colour. Mixing patterns is fun too. I guess I like to play with shapes and colours when it comes to dressing myself. I'd say a my outfits are a good mix of thrifted, vintage, and bought stuff.

Nancy

How can I say this, when it comes to Nancy you can trust that her style is whats current. A little preppy but always on point. I'm pretty sure her new favourite clothing store is J. Crew so you kind of get the idea where her style influences are. Its all works well for her cause she's lean and tall (like a super model! ) Clothes always looks good on her. I guess this Sunday she's more dressed down than usual. Exam time I tell ya no time to dress intensely.

Just a glimpse

Cara will be the first of the style section of our blog.

Cara's style is pretty cool. She make such old school knits her own. Her sense of style is inspired by shows like Fresh prince of bel air. But then again she integrates a lot of nice international fabrics. Her look is very relaxed and casual wear.

We recently celebrated birthdays so its nice to show case some of Cara's quirky style. Some nepal crafted house slippers and Carissa's comical frog slippers gives you a slight taste of our families varied range in style.

Sew ends tog.
(For exact detail pattern was found here)

These headbands are very easy to make I noticed that when I followed this pattern that it always tends to be on the bigger size so when you get to the part where they ask you to knit to 11", substitute that to 10" instead, its has a nicer fit than the given instructions.

The decal can be added according to whatever you wish. You can sew on fake pearls/beads in my case I love needle felting so I needle felt this stuff.
